The list also contained some ideas about the SEO impact of Google Buzz.

This time I’d like to focus on that: Google Buzz SEO or more accurately on the actual ways to use Google Buzz for SEO & SMO.

  1. indexing – Nobody expected Google to ignore the data coming in from Buzz. The most logical step is to use it for quick indexing of new content. I’ll test that but others have already written that Google will index links you post on Buzz. So to get a new page indexed post it on Buzz or better include a buzz button.
  2. keyword research – Use buzzzy.com, the third party Google Buzz search engine to find out currently popular keywords. They’re displayed right on the homepage as “popular searches”
  3. link building – This is obvious: Google Buzz does not use “nofollow” as Google moves away from this mistake of the past. The nofollow attribute backfired for Google as they can’t index most links these days. Thus they’ve decided not to cripple their own site at least. Twitter adds nofollow to all links in tweets by now, even those to your tweets and profile. Some people only add their Twitter feed to Buzz in order to get it properly indexed and followed.
  4. real time search – Google Buzz items don’t appear correctly in real time results on Google yet but they surely will soon. I guess it’s one of the main reasons Google introduced Buzz, to compete with Twitter etc. for attention. So if you care about timely or real time results start using Buzz.
  5. personal branding - Buzz is very closely connected to your Google Profile. Indeed it even hijacks it as Danny Sullivan calls it. It’s a double edged sword but you can use to your won advantage as well. Choose your buzzes wisely only buzzing the quality stuff and keep the chatter on Twitter and this way you can brand yourself as an expert via your Google Profile. On Twitter the links you post get forgotten almost immediately, on Buzz each time someone comments they end up on top again. So a great item might get attention over and over.
  6. microblogging – While most people compare Buzz to Twitter and Facebook it’s in reality rather a Tumblr and Posterous rival. It’s good for content you just drop quick and dirty without much fuss. Tumblr and Posterous are still much better but Google is bigger. So choose one. Why use microblogging at all? Consider this buzz of mine where I ridicule a SEO spammer. This is not the kind of quality content I’ll post on a regular blog and it’s too long for Twitter. It’s an ideal chunk for Buzz.
  7. content creation – I’d call it content theft but when Google does it it can’t be bad can it? You can repost whole blog posts via Google Reader. As Google facilitates that you can now share (steal) content and get away with it.
  8. crowdsourcing - Crowdsourcing on Twitter is great because of the easy to use nature of it, the critical mass and the responsiveness of real followers. It’s annoying to have to post tweets over and over to make people contribute though. On Buzz one item will suffice. Additions get collected as comments and each time a new comment comes in the item ends up on top of your Google Buzz interface. Isn’t that much more convenient?
  9. multi-platform publishing – In case you don’t care for duplicate content and you are rather keen on getting seen everywhere Buzz is is your friend among other services. I expect Ping.fm and similar services to support Buzz and then it can become another channel for your content. I’m not a friend of this type of cross-posting but I even know non SEO people who do that. Why publish only in one volatile place or use several services each of them separately? Isn’t it a waste. I can’t argue with that.
  10. life streaming – Those of you who already have used Friendfeed now what I’m talking about. You can use Buzz as a life streaming tool as well adding your contributions and content from elsewhere. It doesn’t support as many services as FF but I guess it soon will. So in case you don’t use Friendfeed or like me you’re to seldom actually visit their site you might consider Buzz for life streaming instead.

All in all you can do things with Buzz you can do elsewhere as well. Buzz does not excel at any one of these disciplines, Twitter, Tumblr und Friendfeed are better and more specialized applications. On the other hand

Google Buzz is an all-rounder allowing you to do several things in one place.

Why waste that potential? I use Buzz a few times a week. In contrast I’m on Twitter a few times a day. Buzz is great for the occasional social media appearance without the stress of having to be there all the time.

Reports on the recent developments evince that Gujarat is a “happening state” which entitles it to be ranked first among all Indian states.

Agriculture scientist M S Swaminathan rightly puts it, “Gujarat owes it to a scientific and integrated approach to agriculture during Narendra Modi’s tenure which is backed by a sharp vision.”

The initiative of Modi government to provide soil health cards to farmers has brought second ‘Green Revolution’ in Gujarat. The state has now changed gears to become an auto hub. After Tata, Hero Honda, the world’s largest two-wheeler maker, is set to establish a manufacturing unit in the state.

Gujarat has highly diversified industries — from diamonds to denim, fertilisers to pharmaceuticals, automobile to milk products, cotton, art-silk, ceramics and oil seeds. Most of these industries have notched up top slots in terms of production — in India and world alike.

Gujarat contributes to 40 per cent of the country’s pharma and art-silk industries, 80 per cent of polished diamond industry and 11 per cent of the world’s chemical exports. The state government has formed a land bank of 50,000 hectares for industrial houses to choose the sites online.

For past 12 years, Gujarat’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product) has been growing at 12 per cent — as fast as China’s. Gujaratis, who hold 30 per cent of scrips floating in the market, account for 16 per cent of Indian exports and 17 per cent of GDP. The state is India’s petro-gas capital. Political stability, entrepreneurial spirit and ever-improving infra-structure attract capital and entrepreneurs from East Asia, the West and even from the Middle East. Country’s largest social base of business class of Banias, Parsis, Khojas, Bohras constitutes Gujarat’s business community. A commercially-tuned culture and Modi’s resourceful leadership have made Gujarat the most “fast forward state of India”.
Though critical issues like unemployment, low indicators of social development (HDI) and population living Below Poverty Line (BPL) cannot be overlooked, it was persistent under all regimes.

Modi and Health Minister J N Vyas have floated several credible schemes to improve the state’s performance on HDI. The state government has also earmarked financial aid of Rs 1,500 crore for 25 lakh poor families which will be delivered by 2010. While 1.43 BPL families will get plots to build houses, about 2.59 lakh families will be given houses before May 2011. Modi government aims at providing jobs to 10 lakh youths, water supply to 12,000 villages and electricity to 17,940 villages.

Also, the government departments will be graded according to their performance in achieving the goal. The state has sanctioned Rs 1,000 crore for Sakhi Mandals to micro-finance thousands of women.

Gujarat has bagged several prestigious awards like UN Sasakawa Award for disaster mitigation, CAPAM award for innovation in governance, UNESCO award, CSI award for e-governance and Indiatech award in power sector.

The state is front-runner in attracting industrial investment (MoUs). It is first in implementing major health care services. Besides, availability and utility of infrastructure and state-wide fibre-optic connectivity puts it on world map.

Gujarat’s synergising relationship with its Diaspora demonstrates what Gujarat has achieved under the Modi government. Clinton Foundation has awarded Gujarat the world’s largest solar plant and 34 solar projects are in the pipeline.

The state has the distinction of housing India’s first tidal energy project and the largest wind energy farm. Ahmedabad has a world class public transport system which serves 44 million people and helps in saving 37 lakh tonnes of carbon emission. The state has country’s biggest CNG and LNG infrastructure. Ahmedabad, which was derided as the most polluted city in 2003, was recognised as ‘Green City’ by the UN in 2009.

But, Mahuva-pattern land satyagrahas alert us against the possibility of Gujarat becoming a mosaic of fragments of SEZ sub-states.

All these have sculpted Gujarat’s image as a geo-economic power. New coastal ‘Silver Corridor’ with the development arc between its two gulfs and knowledge corridor has wooed global players. Asian Tigers seek access to its ports for taking goods to the Middle East and Europe. Japanese township near Dholera and Koreans’ near Valsad has raised the state’s international profile. Gujaratis ask: “Miles to go, but compared to other states isn’t our glass more than half full?”

PayPal’s move followed questions from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) about whether the US firm complies with laws on cross-border money transfers. Over 7,000 complaints, from customers who are unable to trace their money, have flooded internet portals and blogs.
On January 28 this year, the RBI clamped down on PayPal for carrying out interbank money transfers without a requisite licence. PayPal, which manages over 190 million accounts in 194 countries, responded by suspending monetary transfers to and from India, a move that has affected 30,000-40,000 businesses and individuals. Even as the outage is likely to continue in March, PayPal India officials were inaccessible for comment. Neither Farhad Irani, PayPal’s Asia Pacific head, responded to an e-mailed questionnaire nor eBay India’s spokesperson.

Meanwhile, small businesses are bearing the brunt of the impasse. Mahendra Sharma, chief executive of IT companies in India, a Web solutions company, had requested withdrawal of $6,500 made to a US client via his PayPal account. “I assume it is nowhere in the system, because till date, I am unable to trace it; it is neither in my PayPal account nor in my bank. PayPal simply apologises for the inconvenience and says that it is ‘working on it’, but has no clear explanation to offer,” Sharma fumed. PayPal users were first told on February 3 that the portal was in the process of upgrading its systems.

Krithika, a director with Chennai-based website design firm Anis Info Web, is yet to trace her $2,000, transacted to a US client on February 1. “They promised to reverse the money to my bank account which they didn’t. It’s not there in the PayPal account either. There is no clear time window on when I will get to know the fate of my money.”

PayPal has become the standard mode for making payments and withdrawals to many Indian SMBs and freelance programmers, bypassing the high processing fees of conventional banking channels. Companies noted that banks typically charge between $40-$50 as transfer fees per $1,000 transacted. Making a snappy money transfer via credit card on PayPal was viewed as a cheaper and better option.

According to users of PayPal, while the portal does not have investment bank status, it has been performing the functions of an investment bank. “If they did not have the RBI approval for conducting bank-to-bank transfers, why did they start money transfer operations? In the event of them going ahead with processing business transactions and charging fees for the same, RBI should have stopped them early on. Too many transactions are blocked, with absolutely no clarity on payment and withdrawal status,” said the CEO of a trading company, who finds himself unable to access the $15,000 which he sent via PayPal earlier this month.

Defining himself as a “creditor” in a purely legal sense, the CEO said that PayPal users are likely to form pressure groups to press their case with the RBI. “We are unable to understand PayPal’s reticence and lack of transparency with customers.”

Saurabh Bhandari, CEO of Indore-based Flair Solutions, said, “My money with them is untraceable at present, and my complaints are still unresolved. Practically anybody in India who does business with small clients in the US have been using PayPal because they trust them. But this trust is disappearing.”

“We are working on a consensus among affected users and exploring legal options, if the status of the money remains unclarified by PayPal,” added Sharma, who has written to the RBI’s Mumbai branch for a clarification on the issue.

Thanks to the new technology developed by this start up, their Flash websites are capable of being crawled and indexed by all the search engines, making Wix a particularly great solution for small businesses, non-profit organizations, photographers, musicians and other entities with monetary constraints.

In its next version, expected to be launched towards the end of this week, Wix is pushing the envelope even further, by creating separate URL’s for each of its website pages. Until today, Wix users enjoyed an personal URL for their website, with which it is possible to promote the entire website as a single unit. This new technological innovation will make it possible to promote individual pages, pushing the search engine optimization capabilities up several notches and opening Wix up to an even greater audience. The ability to have separate URL’s for each page will also make it possible for Wix website users to direct visitors directly to individual pages within their Flash website and not just the home page or landing page. In its first stages, this feature will be enabled for pages only and not for mini-pages, although a further development of this feature is already in the works.

Another feature that is expected to be introduced to the website builder in the near future will allow for integration of html within the Flash website code. This html component will enable users to embed html code from 3rd parties, such as Facebook, twitter, polls, weather reports etc., into the website code, further improving the website’s performance and taking Wix higher up the ladder as the ultimate solution for the creation of free and professional websites.
