According to a report on the Wall Street Journal, search engine giant Google is testing a new TV search service in partnership with Dish Network, which will be capable of allowing users to search for TV programs and online videos right from their internet enabled TV sets.
Users will be able to search for their favorite TV programs thanks to the soon-to-be-launched internet friendly set top boxes which will have Google software installed in them.
The TV search technology will also allow Dish TV users to create their own video playlists with the help of a keyboard.
The Wall Street Journal also reported that people familiar with the matter had revealed that the new Google TV search service has been in testing phase for the past one year and is being used by some Google employees and their families.
It seems that Google is planning to bring online advertising based on keywords and searches to TV users and expand its already massive online presence.
Interestingly, the Dish set top boxes will come with Google’s Android operating system, allowing the platform to grow beyond the smartphone and mobile phone markets.

Google Real Time Search - Good News for Social Media and Media Industry
Google, the internet search engine, has launched real-time search, to give its users up-to-the-second information.
The search engine has also today celebrated the creator of Popeye, Elzie Crisler Segar, who is the latest person to be recognised with a Google Doodle.
Real-time search data will be collaborated from over a billion pages on the web, and is to include updates from social networking and micro-blogging sites such Twitter, MySpace and Facebook.
Amit Singhal, Google fellow, wrote on the Google Blog: “First, we’re introducing new features that bring your search results to life with a dynamic stream of real-time content from across the web. Google Celebrates Barcode’s Birthday 2009
Google’s new logo is a barcode which, as far as we can tell, says “Google.” Today is the 57th anniversary of the first patent on the bar code. Inventors Norman Woodland and Bernard Silver filed the patent on October 1949, and it was granted, No. 2,612,994 (pdf), on October 7, 1952. The original patent was for a system that would encode data in circles (a bulls eye pattern), so that it could be scanned in any direction.
The barcode on the Google homepage is Code 128 encoded, which is a standard way of encoding ASCII character strings (ie. A-Z, a-z, 0-9, etc.) into a barcode. It would be safe to assume that Google used their own open source barcode project, ZXing, to generate the barcode. The same library is used in Android for barcode recognition.
