Black Frieday ShoppingThe growing popularity of online shopping won’t stop millions of consumers from standing in pre-dawn lines Friday as they seek out holiday bargains. That’s according to a new annual study from MasterCard Worldwide.

Every year, MasterCard analyzes the transaction data from the previous holiday shopping season that is processed at its data center in suburban St. Louis.

The data show that the Friday after Thanksgiving, called “Black Friday” in the retail industry, still remains the busiest shopping day for gift-oriented items like clothing, electronics and appliances.

But the study says Internet sales are growing. About 69 percent of shoppers expect to do at least some of their shopping online this year.

Several Web sites have launched to help North Texas shoppers plan their money-saving strategies for Black Friday, NBC 5 reported.

At Dealtaker.com consumers can find Black Friday ads from some of the biggest retailers, often leaked weeks in advance by anonymous sources.

“You go to the stores and it’s a mob scene,” said Neal Rapoport of Dealtaker.com. “It’s so much easier to go on one Web site and look at it than it is to weed through all the papers, which aren’t even necessarily complete.”

There are several similar Web sites like BlackFriday.info and BlackFridayAds.com. some times you can also go straight to the store’s own Web site.

Wal-Mart is one of the retailers that posts Black Friday deals earlier than ever on its Web site.

“We thought it would be a better way for people to see what products we’ll have on Black Friday,” said Daniel Morales of Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart is also trying to attract shoppers to its Web site with secret online specials. Some specials will be revealed on Thursday and some on Friday.

Shoppers can also sign up for e-mail and text message alerts about Black Friday deals. Rapoport said many retailers used to fight the Black Friday Web sites, but that is changing.

“They know we’re one of the big Black Friday resources, so they send e-mails to Dealtaker.com all day long saying here’s going to be our Black Friday stuff,” Rapoport said.
